'Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon-ho' runs through 2027 with exhibition, screenings, talks with Bong

A special exhibition dedicated to South Korean auteur Bong Joon-ho’s works is currently underway at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the world’s largest museum dedicated to films, was opened in Los Angeles in 2021 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which organizes the Academy Awards.
This special exhibition on Bong is part of the museum’s “Director’s Inspiration” series, which has previously featured American filmmaker Spike Lee and Belgian-born French director Agnes Varda.
Marking Bong’s first-ever museum showcase, the exhibition sheds light on his creative process and filmography.
Through the exhibition, visitors can explore Bong’s artistic world through never-before-seen personal collections, storyboards, props, creature models, photographs, posters and concept art from his acclaimed films.
The exhibition, which kicked off on Sunday, will run through Jan. 10, 2027.
The museum will also screen seven films by the Oscars-winning director at the museum's theaters, including “Parasite” (2019) and “Okja” (2017), from March 22 to April 14.
Films that have inspired Bong as a filmmaker will also be screened. John Carpenter’s 1982 masterpiece "The Thing," which Bong cites as a major influence, is scheduled for screening Monday, followed by a conversation between Bong and Carpenter.
During the “Okja” screening, actor Steven Yeun will join Bong for a discussion, while the “Parasite” screening will feature a conversation between Bong and a moderator. Detailed schedules of the screening sessions can be found on the museum's official website.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Korea Foundation.
