In South Korea's deadly plane crash, 179 presumed dead
The only two people rescued from Sunday's plane crash so far were flight attendants who were at the back of the aircraft at the time of the accident, rescue authorities said.
The two flight attendants, a 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, sustained some injuries but had both been conscious at the time of the rescue, according to Jeonnam Fire Service's briefing.
Both are being treated at hospitals in Mokpo, a city about 20 kilometers south of Muan International Airport, where the crash occurred at around 9 a.m.
Rescue authorities said most of the other people on the airplane are presumed dead, although 151 had been officially confirmed to have died as of 4:49 a.m. A total of 175 passengers and six crew were aboard the Jeju Air 7C 2216, which overran the runway and collided with the perimeter fence.
