Creative smartphone applications developed by college students for a class project are drawing attention from local governments and investment companies.

Undergraduate students who attend the business English class by Konkuk University international affairs professor Min Byeong-cheol are to present their unique smartphone application projects next week. Songpa-gu Office and several venture investment companies will help evaluate the projects.

In the class, eight groups of students established virtual companies to prepare the final project plan. They connect the application development project they have chosen to a related government agency or a company.

Once the organization they picked approves their plan, students get the opportunity to turn their creative ideas into an actual mobile application.

One of the mobile applications called “Meal Mate” aims to help connect students who eat alone.

“By accomplishing the project, students learn creativity and executive talent that can be strong advantages in the business environment, which they will face after graduation,” Min said in a press release.

“I also hope the project will help ease the serious unemployment crisis by creating more job opportunities for talented youths,” he added.

The presentations are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Konkuk University.
