The government said Tuesday it has revised regulations to require manufacturers of recalled products to provide consumers with timely information of problems found through SNS messages and TV commercials.

The new regulations also stipulate automobiles, livestock products, manufactured goods, bottled water, cosmetics and consumer chemical products should have health hazard classification, the Fair Trade Commission said.

Only foods, medicine, medical equipment and health foods are currently subjected to the health risk classification system.

Information involving so-called first grade recalls must be delivered through mail, telephone or text message, according to the new regulations.

Manufacturers of such serious defective products should also provide information about the recalls on national newspapers, television advertisements, notices in case they cannot reach those who bought the recalled products.

Information on the recalls of second or third grade products will be displayed on the web sites of related government agencies.

Recalls of cars rose 19.2 percent on-year to 242 in 2016 from 203 in the previous year, while numbers for beauty products withdrawn from the market hit 138 vis-a-vis 35 cases in 2015. (Yonhap)
