South Korean telecom company LG Uplus on Monday said that it has partnered with Ssangyong Motor and Tech Mahindra, the internet technology unit of Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra, for the development of new connected car technologies.

The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding in Seoul, agreeing to team up for the development of new platform technologies and network services for Ssangyong’s connected car business.

Under the partnership, LG Uplus will provide the wireless network needed for connected cars and develop in-vehicle infotainment solutions, such as GPS tracking, music streaming services and functions based on Internet of Things technology.

Ssangyong, a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, will develop car interior systems while Tech Mahindra will provide its in-vehicle telematics systems — which monitors and controls a car’s safety and control features.

“LG Uplus will do its best to provide high-quality Long-Term Evolution network services and competitive contents for the development of standout connected car technologies,” Kang Moon-seok, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus’ business solutions division, said in a statement.

The three companies plan to complete and launch their connected car services within three years, LG Uplus said.
