EU, Yonsei University offer business support project for European firms

Since the signing of the Korea-EU Free Trade Agreement, more European firms are grasping business opportunities here with the European Commission offering its support.

The EU Commission, together with Sangnam Institute of Management at Yonsei University, introduced a program designed to help European companies’ workers better adjust to the Korean business environment in downtown Seoul on Thursday.

The program, dubbed the Executive Training Program, is funded by the European Commission to offer European firms the necessary business, language and cultural training to succeed in the Korean market.

“The program provides participants with on-the-ground experience and insider knowledge of the Korean business and cultural environments,” said Pak Yong-suhk, a Yonsei University professor who is also the ETP Korea academic coordinator.

After going through a three-week training course in the U.K., the participants will take part in a 30-week business and training course run by the Sangnam Institute of Management at Yonsei University.

As a final step, they will go through a 12-week internship in a Korean company to put their acquired skills and knowledge into practice, its officials said. Applications will be taken until May.

“Expectations have gone up with the signing of the trade pact between Korea and the EU last year, with European firms seeing greater business opportunities for them in Korea such as in the fields of green energy, information communications technology, automotive and aerospace,” said Pak.
