MTU Aero Engines said it has opened a new sales office in Seoul and appointed Chae Kyoo-joo as representative for the unit.

As chief of the MTU Aero Engines Seoul Representative Office, Chae will market the leading German engine manufacturer’s high-tech repair procedures.

“We are excited to have attracted someone of Chae Kyoo-joo’s background and in-depth knowledge of the industry to this position. He worked as head of engineering for Korean Airlines for many years,” said Stefan Weingartner, president of Commercial Maintenance at MTU.

MTU Aero Engines is Germany’s only independent engine manufacturer and an established global company in the industry. The company has a workforce of about 8,200 employees.

In fiscal 2010, MTU posted 2.7 billion euros ($3.57 billion) in consolidated sales. The company is the world’s largest independent provider of maintenance services for commercial engines.

The Seoul office said it will also bolster the company’s motto “Repair beats Replacement,” showcasing innovative processes and decades of experience.

MTU’s repair experts are known for repairing even heavily worn parts, components and accessories at an affordable price, helped by the company’s edge in the fields of low-pressure turbines, high-pressure compressors and manufacturing techniques.
