A quiz competition testing participants' knowledge of Joseon royal tombs and Korean history will be held later this month at Seolleung and Jeongneung Royal Tombs in southern Seoul.
The "2026 Joseon Royal Tombs Golden Bell" event is scheduled for Sept. 20 at the UNESCO World Heritage site.
The competition will be divided into two categories, with a quiz for high school students from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and a separate competition for foreign participants from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Modeled after Korea's popular high school quiz program "Golden Bell," the competition will have participants answer questions about the history and stories surrounding the royal tombs of the Joseon era (1392-1910). The event will conclude with an awards ceremony and a commemorative photo session.
One grand prize winner will receive a gift certificate worth 200,000 won, while two runners-up will receive certificates worth 100,000 won each. Four third-place winners will receive certificates worth 50,000 won each.
Registration will be open through Sept. 13 via the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center's online reservation system.
The event will be held at Seonjeongneung, a royal tomb complex in Gangnam, southern Seoul, consisting of Seolleung, where King Seongjong, the ninth king of Joseon, and his second wife, Queen Jeonghyeon, are buried, and Jeongneung, the tomb of King Jungjong, the dynasty's 11th monarch.
