LG Chem said Tuesday it was working to strengthen a company-wide culture focused on customer needs by sharing internal examples of customer-oriented practices.

Since 2021, the company has been collecting case studies that highlight how its employees across various departments have worked with customers to address their business challenges.

The cases are shared with employees on a monthly basis and are recognized through an annual award program, which includes a top prize of up to 30 million won ($21,000), according to LG Chem.

Efforts to support customer cost reduction

One corporate customer, an automotive manufacturer, faced challenges due to a recent surge in energy and utility costs.

The company found it increasingly difficult to maintain the temperature needed when sprayin a material onto car surfaces to enhance durability.

LG Chem developed a new material that dries at a lower temperature.

The customer praised LG Chem for the solution, noting not only reduced production costs but also potential for future expansion, as the lower drying temperature also reduced carbon emissions.

In another case, LG Chem successfully helped a customer reduce logistics costs amid global shipping disruptions.

The company did this by optimizing the loading process, effectively doubling the amount of product moved per shipment.

The solution was tested multiple times through simulations, which assessed the durability of different packaging, as well as the optimal stacking height.

LG Chem said that the measure saved the customer over $70,000 in logistics fees, and the solution was adapted to real-world scenarios without delay, thanks to the extensive testing.

Sharing knowledge to grow together

LG Chem also shared stories of how it used its long-standing business expertise to help customers improve their operations.

In one case, the company offered its know-how and analytical data to a customer — a packaging film manufacturer — looking to enter the home appliance packaging market.

LG Chem sent staff to collaborate with the customer on strategies, addressing feedback, and holding seminars and technical meetings to solve challenges.

One of the film manufacturer’s clients required high environmental sustainability standards for the product. LG Chem said it helped establish a recycling system and develop new films from the recycled materials.

LG Chem also shared another case where it offered the customer a structured business training program.

The customer had difficulty promoting its products to health and medical professionals with diverse needs, and was looking for ways to establish a branding strategy and train local sales staff.

As a response, LG Chem shared its experience and materials developed over more than 10 years of domestic and international business operations. Through its branding and academic platform, LG Chem provided an educational program designed to help identify and effectively communicate unique selling points.

“LG Chem’s systematic training contributed to strengthening our sales capabilities and developing internal education systems, thereby improving our sales significantly,” the customer was quoted as saying. “We appreciated being treated as a long-term partner.”
