A police officer died after being shot during a firearms training session in Busan, local police said Wednesday.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, the incident occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. at its indoor range in Daejeo-dong, Busan. The victim, a police constable in their 20s, suffered a gunshot wound to the head while participating in the exercise.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but died about four hours later.

The victim was a member of a mobile unit under the Busan Metropolitan Police, which was undergoing a routine firearms training session using .38 caliber revolvers. The exercise was part of the agency’s regular firearms training program, held twice a year for all officers.

The Busan police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
