K-pop icon joins hands with dazzling lineup of guests and star PD Kim Tae-ho to make song of the year

K-pop juggernaut G-Dragon is set for his first-ever solo entertainment venture with "Good Day," an eight-part series fueled by his dream of uniting diverse talents through music.
"Good Day" follows G-Dragon's journey as he joins forces with a dazzling lineup of guests -- spanning Hallyu heavyweights to K-pop idols and variety-show veterans -- to create the song of the year. The star-studded cast includes actors Kim Su-hyun, Jung Hae-in, Im Si-wan, K-pop group Seventeen's BSS, variety-show staples Hong Jin-kyung and Kian84 as well as "Culinary Class Wars" breakout star chef Ahn Sung-jae.
According to G-Dragon, the show was born from his reflections on how music once united generations.
"During my hiatus, I spent a lot of time observing the activities of my seniors and juniors. I was reminded of the videos from my childhood, where senior artists came together on one stage to show unity. That was what first inspired me to dream of becoming a singer," G-Dragon said during an online press conference held Thursday.
"(However), at some point, K-pop went global, and the content system changed from what it used to be. Personally, with my comeback approaching, I wanted to take the initiative and reach out. Since I’m making a comeback, I wanted to set the stage properly," said the 36-year-old singer, who will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Big Bang's debut next year.
He believes that, regardless of the type of song, what makes it significant is the collaboration between the guests and G-Dragon.
"Personally, I hope this won’t be a one-time project. I’d like us to naturally sing the songs of the senior Korean pop artists I listened to as a child — songs that represent the true roots of Korean music -- and, in doing so, create a meaningful connection for both today’s generation and international fans," said G-Dragon.
The series also signals the return of star TV producer Kim Tae-ho to MBC after six years. Kim, best known for pioneering hits such as "Infinite Challenge," expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
"When we were talking with G-Dragon, we wondered what it would be like if artists who shined this year came together, like the teen music festivals of the past," said Kim.
"This time, we wanted to create a song that captures the year through the voices of contemporary cultural artists living in 2025. G-Dragon took our hand, and the key differentiating factor was, without a doubt, G-Dragon himself. Moving forward, we hope to hold on to the connection we’ve made for a long time," Kim said.
The first episode of "Good Day" will air at 9:10 p.m. Sunday on MBC.
