
Cheongdo Light Festival
A train trip to Cheongdo County in North Gyeongsang Province is worth the two-hour ride from the capital -- if that’s where you are -- for photos and more.
Cheongdo Provence Park, dotted with installations and attractions, has been running a light festival since 2012.
Open through Feb. 10, the park lights up from 5 p.m. and sprays artificial snow from 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and 6:00 p.m. on weekends. For more information, visit cheongdo-provence.co.kr.

Sancheoneo Ice Festival
The annual ice fishing festival is back at Hwacheoncheon, a stream in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province.
Try tent fishing, lure fishing or fishing with your bare hands in addition to classic winter thrills like sledding through Feb. 2.
The stream, known for its high water quality, is home to a type of trout known as cherry salmon or “sancheoneo.” For more information, visit narafestival.com.

Traditional games at Everland
Through Feb. 2, Everland will host traditional Korean games played in “Squid Game 2” at the theme park’s Carnival Square in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Games include “ttakjichigi” (card flipping), “biseokchigi” (stone slab flipping), “paengichigi” (spinning tops) and “jegichagi” (shuttlecock kicking).
Prizes include a golf course pass and skincare products. Participants posting photos of themselves playing games to Instagram will be randomly given gifts. Visit everland.com.

Daegwallyeong Snow Festival
Running through Feb. 2 in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province, the annual Daegwallyeong Snow Festival is for children and adults alike.
Activities span from sledding to walking through snow tunnels and hills. Playgrounds exclusively for children are available with cafes.

Haeundae Light Festival
This iconic annual festival in Busan will take place around Haeundae Beach and the adjacent marketplace areas.
Through Feb. 2, the areas will light up from 5:30 p.m. to midnight, with installations and lanterns illuminating roads and streets.
