Daewoo Engineering and Construction has won the ISO 22301 standardization certification, becoming the first Korean builder to have received such recognition, company officials said.

Awarded by the International Organization for Standardization, the ISO 22301 certification is an international standard for business sustainability, which is the ability for a company to resume operations after natural disasters or major conflicts.

The certification shows that Daewoo E&C has world-class business sustainability, company officials said.

Daewoo E&C has continued to set up a business continuity management system while entering overseas markets such as Nigeria, Libya and Algeria.

Last year, Daewoo set up SECURITY, a security system that shares the know-how of business operations in less safe countries and managing a crisis management system by country and field.

With the ISO 22301 standardization certification, Daewoo E&C’s abilities have been recognized on a global stage, finding a foothold for them to take their overseas business further, company officials said.

Daewoo E&C set up overseas joint ventures in July and plans to create subsidiary companies, and announced plans to establish itself as an international construction company by preparing measures for business processes, risk factors and emergency response.
