성룡 “내 삶 뮤지컬 제작중,” 열정 ‘살아있네’

배우 성룡이 지난 11일(현지시각) 뉴욕에 위치한 홍콩경제무역대표부 사무실에서 열린 기자회견에서 자신의 자서전을 기반으로 한 뮤지컬 “I Am Still Jackie Chan(가제)”를 만들고 있다고 밝혔다.

평소 뮤지컬에 큰 관심을 보여오던 성룡은 1998년에 출판한 “I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action”의 뮤지컬 버전에 직접 나레이션을 한다며 현재 “적합한 연출자를 물색 중”이라고 덧붙혔다.

국내에서도 꾸준히 인기를 쌓아온 성룡은 “이소룡의 그림자에서 벗어나기 위해 자기 자신과 싸워온 노력과 세븐 리틀 포츈스 (Seven Little Fortunes) 어린이 공연단에서 보낸 유년기를 중심으로 담아내겠다”고 했다.

성룡은 3년전, 미리 이와 같은 계획을 밝힌 바가 있다.

이날 열린 기자회견은 10일부터 열린 Hong Kong Movie Week of the New York Asian Film Festival을 기념하기 위한 행사의 일부로, 성룡은 귀빈으로 참석했다.

한편 성룡은 내년 8월 15일에 계봉 예정인 할리우드 영화 “익스펜더블3”에 출연을 확정했다. “익스펜더블3”는 영화 “레드 힐”의 감독 패트릭 휴즈가 맡았으며 주연 배우인 실베스터 스탤론이 제작과 각본을 맡았다.

Jackie Chan to put up autobiographical musical

Jackie Chan is working on a theatrical production based on his life as an action star and martial artist, Chan revealed Tuesday.

The Hong Kong actor said at a press conference in New York that he is writing a stage adaptation of his 1998 autobiography “I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action,” which tells the story of his early childhood, growing up with music and gaining international stardom.

According to Chan, the musical will focus on his youth and efforts to escape the shadows of martial arts legend Bruce Lee. The actor himself will narrate the story of his life, while he is still looking for a director for the musical.

The “Chinese Zodiac” star is no stranger to musicals, as he has already appeared in a number of musicals after making his screen debut at the age of 8.

Chan has recently confirmed his appearance in “The Expendables 3,” Sylvester Stallone’s ‘80s action throwback saga. The movie is slated to hit U.S. theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.
