South Korea’s No. 2 tech giant, LG Electronics, said Monday it will start the sales of three models of its G Pad tablet lineup this week that come with cutting-edge features from the flagship G3 smartphone.

To go on the market from Friday, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat-powered G Pad will come in 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch sizes, the company said. The first G Pad, debuted in October 2013, was 8.3 inches long.

“The three models will also be available for sales in the global market in the near future,” said Kim Yeon-jun, a communications official from LG. “The detailed schedule will be provided soon.”

The local prices of the three devices are set at 229,000 won ($226.98), 279,000 won and 329,000 won, respectively.

The new tablets have the “Knock Code,” an update of its previous “KnockOn,” which allows users to unlock devices by tapping the screen several times, as with the G3 smartphone.

The “Q-Pair 2.0” application, which connects tablets and smartphones, will allow users to receive calls and send messages through tablet PCs. The devices work only under Wi-Fi networks.

Users will be able to take photos by simply folding and spreading hands with the tablets’ 1.3-megapixel front camera. While the 7-inch model holds a 3-megapixel rear camera, the other two feature 5 megapixels.

The 7-inch and 8-inch models will come in black or white. The 10.1-inch version will be available in black or red.

The three devices will have a battery capacity of 4,000 mAh, 4,200 mAh and 8,000 mAh, respectively. The company said the improved batteries will allow users to enjoy movies and e-books for longer periods of time. (Yonhap)
