A petition to make a Bill of Rights applicable in the digital age was signed by 560 authors, as part of a move to oppose the mass surveillance of the National Security Agency.
Foreign media outlets reported Tuesday that the authors have made a strong stance on protecting the private sphere from spying eyes of state agencies. Authors from 81 countries plan to send an open letter to U.S. President Barack Obama and major IT companies such as Apple, Google and Facebook.
The campaign has earned support from Nobel Prize laureates Orhan Pamuk, Günter Grass and other renowned authors such as Umberto Eco and Margaret Atwood.
