Three people were injured Thursday evening after a 25-metric-ton cargo truck crashed into a sound barrier on an overpass in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, according to news reports Friday.
Police said the accident occurred around 7 p.m. when the truck, traveling in the rightmost lane of a four-lane road, struck a guardrail near the entrance to Pyeongchon Interchange before colliding with a passenger car entering the expressway.
The truck then veered to the right and crashed into a sound barrier.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries, including pelvic pain, and was taken to a hospital.
As debris from the damaged sound barrier fell onto a taxi traveling on the road below near Singi Intersection, the taxi driver and a passenger also suffered minor injuries.
Several lanes were temporarily closed as authorities cleared the accident scene, causing traffic congestion stretching about 1 kilometer during the evening rush hour.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol.
