Lee Sung-jin’s Netflix anthology fails to score trophy at main ceremony, leaves Emmys with 3 technical awards despite 16 nominations
The second season of Netflix series “Beef,” one of the most-nominated productions at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, failed to secure any wins during the main ceremony Monday night in Los Angeles.
The ceremony, one of the television industry’s biggest annual events, was attended by “Beef” Season 2 stars Youn Yuh-jung, Jang Seo-yeon, Charles Melton, Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, alongside Korean American filmmaker Lee Sung-jin, who created and directed both seasons of the anthology series.
“Beef” earned 16 nominations, among the highest totals of the night. It had already secured three awards announced ahead of the main ceremony, winning for sound, sound editing and costume design.
However, “Beef” failed to secure any additional wins during the main ceremony, including for outstanding limited or anthology series, outstanding lead actress in a limited or anthology series and outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series. Youn had also been nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie, but the award went to Linda Cardellini for her role in "DTF St. Louis" in a ceremony held Sept. 6.
Released on Netflix on April 16, the second season of "Beef" follows two married couples whose lives become intertwined as they face a series of escalating crises, ranging from divorce to criminal developments.
This year's Emmy Awards spanned three days. The first two nights, Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, were prerecorded, while the main ceremony took place in Los Angeles on Monday.
