HD Hyundai E&F has completed a 435 billion won ($323 million) liquefied natural gas cogeneration plant at the Daesan petrochemical complex in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, strengthening the industrial hub’s energy infrastructure.
The HD Hyundai Oilbank subsidiary said Monday that the plant can generate 290 megawatts of electricity and produce up to 321 metric tons of steam per hour. It will supply power and thermal energy to companies within the complex, including H&L Advanced.
Powered by LNG, the facility uses a high-efficiency combined-cycle gas turbine system to generate electricity and steam simultaneously. HD Hyundai E&F said the system would provide nearby companies with a stable and competitively priced energy supply.
Established in 2021, the company began construction in March 2024 and completed the project in about two years. The plant entered commercial operation in late July after phased test runs confirmed its performance and stability.
“The completion of this LNG cogeneration plant is significant because it further strengthens the energy infrastructure of the Daesan petrochemical complex,” HD Hyundai Oilbank CEO Song Myung-joon said.
HD Hyundai E&F CEO Kim Myoung-hyun said the company would focus on stable operations and improving the plant’s efficiency, helping customers use energy more effectively and reduce carbon emissions.
A completion ceremony was held Monday, attended by Song, fellow HD Hyundai Oilbank CEO Jung Im-ju, Kim and other company officials.
