The number of employed South Koreans aged 55-79 surpassed 10 million for the first time, government data showed.

정부 자료에 따르면 한국에서 55~79세 취업자 수가 처음으로 1천만명을 넘어섰다.

As of May, 10.13 million older adults were employed, up 345,000 from a year earlier. Those aged 65-79 accounted for about 94 percent of the increase. The older population reached 17 million, or about 37 percent of the population aged 15 and older.

5월 기준 고령 취업자는 1,013만명으로, 1년 전보다 34만 5,000명 증가했다. 증가분의 약 94%는 65~79세가 차지했다. 고령인구는 1,700만명으로 늘어 15세 이상 인구의 약 37%에 달했다.

About 69.2 percent of respondents said they wanted to continue working, with desired retirement age averaging a record 73.6. More than half, or 53.4 percent, cited supplementing living expenses as their main reason for continuing to work.

응답자의 약 69.2%는 계속 일하고 싶다고 답했으며, 희망하는 평균 은퇴 연령은 역대 가장 높은 73.6세로 나타났다. 절반을 넘는 53.4%는 계속 일하는 가장 큰 이유로 생활비 보충을 꼽았다.

Pension recipients accounted for a record 52.7 percent of older adults. Their average monthly pension payment rose 2.1 percent to 880,000 won. Men received an average of 1.13 million won, nearly twice the 610,000 won received by women.

고령인구 가운데 연금 수령자가 차지하는 비중도 역대 최고인 52.7%를 기록했다. 이들의 월평균 연금 수령액은 2.1% 증가한 88만원이었다. 남성의 월평균 수령액은 113만원으로, 여성의 61만원보다 거의 두 배 많았다.
