Theater ticket revenue hits record high
영화 티켓 매출이 사상 최고치를 기록하다
South Korea’s theater ticket revenue more than doubled in the first half of this year from a year earlier, driven by the popularity of high-priced, large-scale productions based on global intellectual properties.
한국의 영화 티켓 매출이 올해 상반기에 전년 동기 대비 두 배 이상 증가했는데, 이는 세계적인 지적 재산권에 기반한 고가의 대규모 프로덕션의 인기에 힘입은 결과다.
According to the Korean Performing Arts Box Office Information System, theater ticket revenue reached 75.9 billion won ($51.2 million) from January to June, the highest since records began in 2014 and more than double the 37 billion won recorded a year earlier.
공연예술통합전산망에 의하면, 영화 티켓 매출은 1월부터 6월까지 759억 원 (5,120만 달러)을 기록해 2014년 집계 이후 최고치를 경신했으며, 이는 전년 동기 370억 원의 두 배가 넘는 수치다.
The surge was driven largely by major global IP-based productions, which typically command higher ticket prices. Meanwhile, musical ticket revenue fell to 223.22 billion won from 237.75 billion won a year earlier, while classical music sales recovered and traditional Korean music and dance revenue edged down.
이러한 급증세는 주로 높은 티켓 가격을 책정하는 주요 글로벌 IP 기반 작품들에 힘입은 바가 컸다. 한편, 뮤지컬 티켓 매출은 전년 동기 2,377억 5천만 원에서 2,232억 2천만 원으로 감소했으며, 클래식 음악 판매는 회복세를 보인 반면 한국 전통 음악 및 무용 매출은 소폭 감소했다.
