S. Korea’s foreign medical spending hits record high

Foreign tourists spent a record $180 million on medical services in South Korea in May, up 74.6 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Tourism Organization.
한국관광공사에 따르면, 5월 외국인 관광객의 의료 서비스 지출액이 1억 8천만 달러를 기록하며 전년 대비 74.6% 증가했다.
Dermatology led demand at 57.8 percent of spending, followed by plastic surgery at 18 percent. The surge in medical spending was largely driven by the growth of pharmacies, which had accounted for less than 5 percent of spending but surpassed 10 percent for the first time this year, reaching a record share in May.
피부과 지출이 지출의 57.8%를 차지하며 수요를 이끌었고, 성형외과 지출이 18%로 뒤따랐다. 의료지출의 급증은 주로 의약품 부문의 수요 증가 때문이었는데, 원래 총 지출의 5% 미만을 차지했으나 올해 최초로 10%를 넘으며 5월 사상 최고 비중을 기록했다.
Chinese visitors topped spending with $47.1 million, followed by the United States at $34.2 million and Japan at $24.4 million. Taiwan and Singapore followed with $22 million and $10.7 million, respectively.
중국인 방문객이 4710만 달러로 소비량 1위를 차지했고, 미국인이 3420만 달러, 일본인이 2440만 달러로 뒤따랐다. 대만과 싱가폴 방문객이 각각 2200만, 1070만 달러로 뒤따랐다.
