Is North Korea’s propaganda getting an upgrade?
On Monday, the North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that leader Kim Jong-un had on Sunday visited the tomb of Hyon Chol-hae — his mentor during his successor-in-training years — to pay tribute on the third anniversary of his death.

In the released images, Kim is seen kneeling in front of a tomb at the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery in Sinmi-ri, Pyongyang, with a single red rose.

Then, a close-up shot of that rose lying on the tomb follows.

Hyon, who died on May 19, 2022, played a key role in helping Kim Jong-il, the father of the current leader, tighten his grip on the military and groom Kim Jong-un as the successor.
“Comrade Hyon Chol-hae was always by the side of the great General. He was the General’s shadow and will live forever,” Kim Jong-un was quoted as saying by the KCNA.
