South Korea’s weather agency on Friday issued heavy rain advisories and warnings for parts of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province as intense rain fell across the capital region.

As of 4:20 p.m., the Korea Meteorological Administration placed several districts in northeastern and northwestern Seoul under a heavy rain advisory. It was later extended to include other parts of Seoul at 5 p.m.

A heavy rain advisory is issued when 60 millimeters or more of rainfall is expected in 3 hours, or 110 mm or more within 12 hours.

In nearby Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, a heavy rain warning was also issued at 4:20 p.m. A heavy rain warning is declared when 90 mm or more of rain is expected in 3 hours, or 180 mm or more in 12 hours.
