US president Donald Trump is closing out the first quarter of his second term with an average 45 percent job approval rating, according to a new Gallup report.
The report notes that while this marks an improvement from the 41 percent average he received during the first quarter of his initial term, it remains significantly lower than that of all other US presidents elected since World War II.
Gallup reports that the average first-quarter job approval rating for presidents from 1952 through 2020 stands at 60 percent. Trump’s 45 percent places him well below that historical benchmark.
The highest first-quarter ratings were recorded by John F. Kennedy in 1961, with 74 percent, and Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953, with 71 percent. Other modern presidents such as Jimmy Carter (69 percent), Barack Obama (63 percent) and Ronald Reagan (60 percent) also surpassed the average.
Notably, Trump remains the only US president to receive an average first-quarter approval rating below 50 percent in both terms.
