Seoul is moving ahead with plans to build a floating hotel on the Han River, weighing whether to develop it as a three-star or five-star facility.

The Seoul Housing and Communities Corp. recently completed a feasibility study and aims to finalize the project’s basic plan by October. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2028.

The proposed hotel will be built near the Floating Stage by Seogang Bridge. Two options are under review: a three-star hotel with 121 rooms across 5,600 square meters, or a five-star hotel with 166 rooms over 18,000 square meters. Depending on the option selected, the required investment is estimated to range from 70 billion won to 200 billion won ($51 million to $145 million).

“A final decision will be made after closely reviewing the business feasibility of both options,” a Seoul city official said.

The project is part of Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s broader Great Han River Project to transform the river into a major urban destination. Additional plans for floating offices and food zones are underway.
