Samsung SDI said Thursday it was selected as a top global partner by Jaguar Land Rover, a UK-based luxury vehicle brand.
The ceremony for the JLR Quality Award was held at the battery manufacturer’s plant in Tianjin, China. The Chinese facility is where Samsung SDI produces its 21700 cylindrical battery cells -- 21 millimeters in diameter and 70 millimeters in height –- which it supplies to Jaguar Land Rover for premium models such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport through a strategic partnership that began in 2018.
The event was attended by key executives, including Park Jeong-joon, head of the quality division at Samsung SDI; Cho Hans, head of strategic marketing in the small battery business division at Samsung SDI; Zehgham Shah, executive director of quality at Jaguar Land Rover; and Nick Wells, vice president of procurement for China and the Asia Pacific region at Jaguar Land Rover.
Leveraging Samsung SDI’s high-nickel, cobalt and aluminum cathode material and silicon anode technology, the 21700 cylindrical battery boasts fast charging and a long lifespan.
“Our premium brand client reaffirmed Samsung SDI’s exceptional technological prowess and quality. We remain committed to delivering the finest products to our customers and fostering growth through this partnership,” stated Park.
Since 2010, Jaguar Land Rover has given awards to its leading suppliers for their dedication to delivering high-quality products. The JLR Quality Award assesses global partners based on criteria such as product quality standards and delivery reliability.
