More than 7 out of 10 office workers in South Korea are using the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT for work on a near-daily basis, a recent report showed Tuesday.

Local job-search and recruiting platform Job Planet asked 762 Korean workers their views on using the AI-powered program at work. It was found that 93.7 percent of the respondents said using ChatGPT for work was acceptable, of which 82.7 percent said they do not hide their use of the chatbot.

When asked how frequently they use ChatGPT, 70.9 percent said almost every day, 14.8 percent said they do it once or twice a week, and 9.5 percent said they seldom use it.

Most of the respondents (78.9 percent) said they use it frequently at work, compared to 21.1 percent said they use it for everyday life. "Writing documents or making an abridged version" was the most frequent use for the respondents at 40.1 percent, followed by "finding ideas and information searches" (28.4 percent), and "for technical work such as writing code" (24.8 percent).

Some 91.1 percent said fluent use of AI is part of one's job capacity, indicating that many Korean workers think utilizing the artificial intelligence is mark of a good worker.

Despite the recent technological advancement of AI, 57.6 percent of the respondents said they do not feel the threat of losing one's job to AI.

Surveys here consistently indicate that the overwhelming majority of office workers here are using AI and have positive attitudes toward its use in their jobs.

A March survey by corporate training firm Hunet on 852 office workers showed that 88.4 percent of the respondents used AI in their work. The respondents gave an average of 4.1 out of 5 points when asked how much the AI aids their proficiency at work, with 35.9 percent giving the score of 5 points.
