AI-based robot solution market to reach $236b globally in 2040: Morgan Stanley

Doosan Robotics will debut an intelligent robotics solution for automating the manufacturing sector within this year, as it has pinned 2025 as a year to push for technological transformation centered on artificial intelligence, the company said Monday.

“To become a top-tier player in the high-potential intelligent robotics market beyond just collaborative robots, we must bring out distinguished products through technological innovation and deliver more values to customers,” said Kim Min-pyo, CEO of Doosan Robotics, during the company’s town hall meeting at the Bundang Doosan Tower in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

Kim announced plans to move away from the existing business portfolio that is heavily focused on hardware technologies to put more emphasis on intelligent robotics solutions, combining the functions of collaborative robots’ hardware, software and AI. Intelligent robotics solutions allow more efficient work processes as they can optimize the workflow through AI and minimize its duration.

Doosan pointed out that intelligent robotics solutions will increase the accuracy of individual tasks such as welding and coffee production while making repair and maintenance easier based on operations under the international robotics safety standards.

With its first intelligent robotics solution set to be launched before year-end in regard to the automation of manufacturing, Doosan Robotics plans to expand solutions to more areas in phases.

The CEO also unveiled that the company will invest in securing humanoid technologies. On that end, Doosan Robotics plans to set up new research and development units for AI, software and humanoids in the second half of this year, while establishing an integrated R&D center for robotics development. Starting next week, the company will also begin an open recruitment for experienced professionals in a wide range of fields, such as robotics R&D, AI, software and quality.

To achieve practical humanoids, Doosan Robotics said it will preemptively develop technologies to control multiple robot arms, avoid collisions with sensors and algorithms and autonomously draft work plans and carry them out.

Citing Morgan Stanley’s report on the future of the global humanoid robot value chain, Doosan Robotics said the AI-based robotics solution market is expected to reach 338 trillion won ($236 billion) worldwide by 2040, from 6 trillion won in 2030.

“To achieve our goals early, we will utilize all our resources for technological development and internalization, strategic partnerships and (merger and acquisition) opportunities, and implement an action-based culture to continue our innovation.”
