Students at Yonggye Elementary School in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, study with devices equipped with AI Digital Textbooks during an open class held Thursday.

AI-based digital textbooks were introduced in South Korean classrooms this semester in a limited scope. Currently in pilot classes for 3rd and 4th grade elementary students, as well as 1st year middle and high school students, the AI-backed learning program aims to provide personalized education.
While AI-powered textbooks were originally planned for mandatory rollout by 2025 for lower grades, the initiative faces resistance from parents and teachers over its educational effectiveness and a lack of infrastructure. It was a representative education policy of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. (Photos by Yonhap)
