A survey conducted by the Seoul City Council reveals that six out of ten Seoul residents believe the current age of those eligible to ride the city’s metro service for free - set at 65 - should be raised. The survey, which was conducted last year, involved 1,144 participants aged 19 and older and was conducted both online and offline.
The survey findings show that the largest proportion of respondents were in their 50s (18.4 percent), followed by those in their 30s (17.7 percent), 40s (17.2 percent), 20s and 60s (both 16.3 percent), 70s (9.4 percent) and 80s (4.8 percent).
A significant 76 percent of respondents believe the age for riding the metro for free should be raised to 70 or older.
Among them, 18 percent think the appropriate age should be at least 75, while 8 percent consider age 80 to be the proper limit.
Regarding the overall need to raise the age, 64 percent agreed, while 17 percent disagreed and 19 percent remained uncertain.
