The construction of Park Seo-bo Museum Seoul is underway next to the Park Seo-bo Foundation in Yeonhui-dong, with the building expected to be completed by year-end.
“The museum in Seoul may become the first Park museum to be established among others. The construction is in full swing,” the foundation said in a recent social media post updating the progress of three planned museums.
The museum on Jeju Island was to be built next to the JW Marriott Jeju Resort and Spa in the southern city of Seogwipo. Though originally scheduled to open last year following a groundbreaking ceremony in 2023, the foundation shared that construction has been suspended.
The foundation added that it has found it difficult to find a site in Busan to build a museum dedicated to Park.
The Park Seo-bo Foundation, formerly known as GIZI Foundation, is a non-profit foundation established in 2019 with funding from the late painter to nurture emerging artists. The foundation also manages Park’s estate.
Park Seung-ho, chairperson of the foundation and son of the artist, said Monday that he has donated an inheritance worth 2.26 billion won to the foundation toward building the museum in Yeonhui-dong.
