President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is suspended from his duties amid an ongoing impeachment trial, wrote on Facebook that the South Korean government should provide support to help deal with the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Yoon expressed condolences and regret for those affected by the deadly wildfires, and expressed his wishes for the fire to be contained and damage restored.

"The US is our most invaluable ally that took our hand during the most difficult times of South Korea, and LA is home to the largest number of our compatriots in the world," he wrote. "I urge the government to give help when needed, and to do its best to contain damage to our compatriots."

This marks the second Facebook post written by the president since the motion for his impeachment was passed by the National Assembly last month. He is currently also facing a criminal investigation over suspicions of insurrection and power abuse concerning his Dec. 3 declaration of martial law and alleged illegal orders to his military commanders.

The deadly fire that ravaged much of the west coast metropolis has left more than a dozen dead and destroyed numerous homes and structures. Preliminary estimates put the expected cost of the damage from the fire at between $135 billion and $150 billion.
