Morning lows in Seoul dropped to around minus 6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, marking a sharp decline of about 7 degrees from the previous day as a cold wave sweeps across parts of South Korea.

Northern regions, including Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces, are experiencing even colder temperatures, with Cheorwon recording minus 13.6 degrees. Other areas, such as Andong and Daejeon, are also facing subzero conditions.

In the southern provinces of North and South Chungcheong, North and South Jeolla and Jeju Island, the cold weather is further intensified by heavy snowfall, with up to 40 centimeters expected. A heavy snow warning has been in effect since Monday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that the cold wave will reach its nadir on Thursday, with morning temperatures in Seoul dropping to as low as minus 12°C, possibly the lowest of the season.

The cold wave is expected to persist throughout the week.
