BEIJING (AP) _ At least 13 people have been killed and 17 hurt in a blast at a steel plant in northeastern China.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency says the blast late Monday night in Anshan city in Liaoning province happened when a mold exploded in a steel-casting plant. The cause of the explosion was not given. Calls to the government offices in Anshan rang unanswered Tuesday.
Rapid economic growth and lax safety measures mean that industrial accidents are relatively common in China.

장비제조업체서 폭발, 13명 사망•실종
지난 20일 오후 11시 30분께 중국 랴오닝(遼寧)성 안산(鞍山)시 장비제조업체인 안강(鞍鋼)중형기계공사에서 폭발 사고가 발생, 10명이 숨지고 3명이 실종됐으며 17명이 부상했다고 중국 관영 신화통신이 21일 보 도했다.
사고는 강철을 주조 중이던 모래 주형이 폭발하면서 발생했다.
현지 당국은 실종자 수색에 나서는 한편 정확한 사고 원인을 조사 중이다.
사고가 난 안강중형기계는 국유 철강기업인 안강집단의 자회사로, 야금과 주조, 단조, 기계를 제조하는 중국의 대표적인 중장비 제조업체 가운데 하나다.
