Day6 ends the year on a triumphant note with Gocheok Sky Dome concert

This year has been a tremendous year for Day6, a band at the heart of the resurgence of band music in Korea.

Released in March after the completion of the member's military service, “Fourever” propelled the band's popularity to new heights. In September, "Band Aid,” the band's ninth mini album, and its title track “Melt Down” reached No. 1 on the Melon Top 100 chart, the first for the band.

With a busy year filled with concerts, fan meetings and appearances at various festivals, Day6 closed the year with a historic grand finale: becoming the first K-pop band to hold a stand-alone concert at Gocheok Sky Dome.

“The Present” concert was held over two nights on Friday and Saturday at Seoul’s iconic Gocheok Sky Dome, one of the largest indoor concert venues in Korea. When tickets went on sale in November, all 38,000 seats sold out, demonstrating Day6's undeniable popularity and devoted fanbase.

The concert opened as the members’ silhouettes were projected on massive screens, accompanied by blue lights, laser effects and fluid, paint-like images on the backdrop. The performance kicked off with “Colors,” a B-side track from the band's debut album “The Day,” released in September 2015.

Throughout the concert, the members repeatedly expressed their awe and gratitude for performing at such a symbolic venue. Keyboardist Wonpil emotionally shouted, “Congratulations to Day6 for making it to Gocheok Dome!” before shedding tears.

The night was elevated by the orchestral arrangements that accompanied several songs. During “Still There,” the massive screen behind the band lifted to reveal the live orchestra, adding a rich and immersive layer to the music. Beloved tracks like “Didn’t Know,” “You Were Beautiful,” and the band's debut song “Congratulations” were reimagined with sweeping soundscapes.

The energy soared during “Counter” as the members moved to the center stage, bringing them closer to the audience that stood up, danced and sang along enthusiastically.

During the performance of “Days Gone By,” a breathtaking scene unfolded as photos from Day6's 2024 activities were displayed on the backdrop and fans’ light sticks glowed in rainbow colors.

In a special fan sing-along segment, the audience filled the dome with their voices during heartwarming tracks like “Only” “Healer” and “I Like You.”

As the concert drew to a close, leader Sungjin said, “We’ve been performing for over nine years, and now we’re a band that’s playing at Gocheok Sky Dome. We worked hard to get here, but it was only possible because of all of you.”

Day6 concluded 2024 on a triumphant note, leaving fans anticipating its upcoming third world tour “Forever Young,” set to be staged in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Los Angeles and New York in 2025.
