LG Electronics, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers, said Sunday sales of its ultrahigh definition TVs have reached 900 units three weeks after they were put on the market.

The company began selling the 49-, 55- and 65-inch versions of the TV sets on March 28. The company said of the three models on sale, the TV with the screen size of 49 inches accounted for half of the sales, thanks to its relatively affordable price of 2.9 million won ($2,800).

UHD TVs have a screen aspect ratio of at least 16:9 and the capability to show video images with a minimum resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels. This is a considerable improvement over mainstream HD TVs. The price of the 55-inch model is set at 3.9 million won, while the 65-inch TV is 7.4 million won.

LG claimed that its UHD TVs uses “plane switching panels” for superior color accuracy at all viewing angles. It added that the “cinema 3-D” technology used on the sets provides viewers with excellent picture perspective and bright 3-D images.

The electronics giant said it will move to launch larger UHD TVs with screen sizes reaching 79 and 84 inches in the first half to meet diverse consumer demand. (Yonhap)
