[Today’s K-pop] Astro’s Cha Eunwoo to drop 1st solo album: report

Cha Eunwoo of Astro will bring out his first solo album in the first half of this year, according to a local media report on Tuesday.

Agency Fantagio confirmed the news following the report and added that he will unveil one of the B-side tracks from the album at his first solo fan concert slated to be held in Seoul on Feb. 17.

The singer and actor has released a number of solo songs for TV dramas he has starred in, including his first, “Rainbow Falling,” which was part of the original soundtrack for 2018's “Gangnam Beauty.” But it will be his first solo album since he debuted eight years ago.

He is currently playing the male lead role in “A Good Day to Be a Dog” and will star in “Wonderful World,” which starts airing in March.

 

Itzy tops iTunes chart in 23 regions with 8th EP

Itzy landed atop iTunes top albums chart in 23 regions with eighth EP “Born To Be,” according to JYP Entertainment on Tuesday.

The mini album also was No. 1 on worldwide iTunes albums charts, as well as a series of real-time and daily albums charts in Korea, and main track “Untouchable” entered the top 100 of Melon, the largest music tally at home. The music video for the lead single claimed the top spot on YouTube’s music video trending worldwide chart.

The new album features only four members of the quintet, however, as Lia has been taking time off due to health reasons since September last year. She will also be absent from the group’s upcoming world tour that spans across 16 cities for 20 concerts starting next month.

 

EXO’s Baekhyun to greet fans in person

Baekhyun of EXO will meet with fans through a solo fan meetup, agency INB100 said Tuesday.

The event will be held in Seoul on Jan. 20 and 21 in Gwangju on the following week and in Busan on Feb. 3 under the title “Snack Party.” It will be the first time he is hosting such an event on his own since May last year, when he held fan meeting “B Happy” in time for his birthday.

The seven-time event hails a new chapter for the veteran idol, who announced Monday that he has established his own label that will oversee his individual activities.

 

BTS’ V stays on UK’s Official chart for record 11th week

V of BTS logged a record streak on UK’s Official top singles download chart and singles sales chart with a solo song, Big Hit Music said Tuesday.

“Slow Dancing,” the lead single from his first solo album “Layover,” stayed on the charts for an 11th and 10th week in a row, respectively, the longest for a K-pop solo artist. He also was the first K-pop solo musician to top both charts.

Meanwhile, his collaboration with American singer and songwriter Umi, “Wherever U R” debuted on the British charts at No. 6 and No. 9, respectively. He dropped the single in time for his birthday last month and notched the No. 1 spot on Oricon’s daily digital singles ranking.

On Spotify, he has amassed 2 billion streams with the six tracks from his solo album and the songs he sang for the band’s albums so far, according to the platform.
