Former President Roh Tae-woo’s only son Roh Jae-hon has divorced Shin Jung-hwa, ending 23 years of marriage.

The Seoul Family Court said that Roh notified the court on May 2 of his intention to drop his lawsuit for divorce and compensation.

His withdrawal came after Shin won a divorce suit in a Hong Kong court in July, last year. Roh appealed but later dropped the appeal. The Hong Kong court established their divorce in November.

Court rulings in Hong Kong are effective in Korea as well.

The Hong Kong court is said to have accepted all of Shin’s requests. Shin will have the right to bring up their three children, while sharing parental authority with Roh. They have one son and two daughters.

Roh married Shin, who is the eldest daughter of Shin Myoung-soo, former chairman of now-defunct Shindongbang Group, in 1990.

Roh and Shin filed divorce suits in Korea and Hong Kong, respectively, in 2011.

A property division case filed by Shin against Roh is said to be before the Hong Kong court.
