Apple Inc.’s Tim Cook was the highest-paid chief executive officer in the U.S. last year as compensation gained 2 percent overall from 2010, the New York Times reported.
Cook received about $378 million, which includes salary, perks and bonuses ($1.8 million) and a one-time stock award ($376.2 million), that extends over 10 years. One-half of the award vests in 2016 and the other in 2021, the newspaper said. Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp. was second with $77.6 million, followed by J.C. Penney Co.’s Ronald Johnson, at $53.3 million, the Times said.
The median total compensation for U.S. CEOs rose to $14.4 million, the newspaper said, citing the survey by executive compensation tracker Equilar.
Viacom Inc. (VIAB) (VIAB)’s Philippe Dauman, who was No. 1 in the survey last year, was fourth this year with $43.1 million, followed by Honeywell International Inc.’s David Cote, who received $35.3 million, the Times said. Stephen Chazen of Occidental Petroleum Corp. was paid $31.7 million and was sixth, the newspaper said.
Seventh through 10th, respectively, were Robert Iger, Walt Disney Co., $31.4 million; Clarence Cazalot Jr., Marathon Oil Corp, $29.9 million; Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Co., $29.5 million; and Rupert Murdoch, News Corp., $29.4 million.
Equilar’s study for the newspaper covered the 100 most compensated executives at public companies with annual revenue of more than $5 billion and had filed proxy statements by March 30, the Times said.
Equilar analyzed base salaries, cash bonuses, perks, stock awards and stock options for the newspaper. (Bloomberg)
美 100대 CEO 보수, 일반인 300배 넘어
지난해 미국의 상위 100대 최고경영자(CEO)의 보수가 소폭 늘어나는데 그쳤지만 아직도 보통 월급쟁이들이 상상할 수 없을 정도로 많은 것으로 나타났다.
8일(현지시간) 뉴욕타임스(NYT)에 따르면 지난해 미국에서 보수를 가장 많이 받 은 CEO 100명의 전체 보수는 지난해보다 2% 늘어났다.
이들의 보수 중앙값(통계 집단의 변량을 크기 순서로 늘어놓았을 때 중앙에 있 는 값)은 1천440만달러(163억원 상당)였다. 이는 미국인의 평균 연봉 4만5천230달러 의 318배에 달한다.
또 보수 순위 상위 CEO 100명의 보수를 모두 더하면 21억달러로 서아프리카 남 쪽에 있는 나라인 시에라리온의 연간 총생산과 비슷하다.
NYT는 지난해 CEO 보수 증가세가 미미했지만 절대적인 수치는 여전히 높다고 전 했다.
NYT는 1년에 1천만달러 이상을 집에 가져가는 새로운 CEO들이 계속 나타나고 있 으며 현금보다는 주식 등을 통해 CEO의 보수가 늘어나는 추세가 있다고 분석했다.
실제 지난해 8월 스티브 잡스에 뒤이어 애플의 CEO에 오른 팀 쿡이 지난해 현금으로 받은 액수는 90만달러 정도였다. 다른 CEO에 비해 많지 않은 규모다.
하지만 쿡이 보유한 애플의 주식까지 포함하면 그렇지 않다. 쿡이 애플 주식을 받을 때 가치는 3억7천620만달러였지만 지난주 종가 기준으로는 6억3천400만달러로 늘어났다.
실질 임금이 줄어든 보통 월급쟁이들에게는 어마어마한 금액이다.
지난해 미국의 정규직 임금 근로자들의 주급 중앙값은 757달러로 1년 전의 747 달러보다 1% 늘어났다. 그러나 물가 상승률 등을 고려하면 전년보다 2% 이상 감소했다고 NYT는 전했다.
