Mental illness incidence doubles in five years
The number of Korean adults suffering from mental illnesses has nearly doubled over the past five years, but most of them shun treatment due to social prejudice. In a survey of 6,022 adults conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare released Wednesday, about 16 percent of respondents said they had suffered a mental disorder last year, an increase from 8.3 percent in 2006. It also showed 27.6 percent had a mental disorder at least once in lifetime, compared with 12.6 percent five years ago.“
