Kim Seok-han, the former head of the Korea Middle School Football Association, on Wednesday became the first to register as a candidate for the country’s top soccer job, officials said.
Kim became the first among five hopefuls to formally enter the race for the chairman post at the Korea Football Association, said the country’s governing body of the sport.
The middle-school association said Kim submitted the necessary candidature files at the KFA headquarters in Seoul on Wednesday.
In November last year, Kim also became the first to declare his intention to run for the job.
The incumbent KFA chairman, Cho Chung-yun, has decided against a second term, and the KFA will elect his successor on Jan. 28.
According to the KFA, the hopefuls have until next Monday to register.
A total of 24 KFA delegates ― 16 heads of municipal and provincial football governing bodies and eight heads of KFA-affiliated football federations ― will vote for the new chairman.
Under the voting rules, candidates must receive letters of recommendation from at least three delegates to enter the election.
Aside from Kim, four others have expressed interest in competing for the KFA chairmanship, one of the most coveted sports administrative posts in South Korea. (Yonhap News)
