BEIJING (Yonhap News) ― North Korea’s elite acrobatic troupe has been putting on rare performances at an annual winter festival in China’s northeastern city of Harbin, a local media report said Saturday.
The 24-member group from the North’s Pyongyang National Acrobatic Troupe has performed at the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival since Wednesday, the city’s newspaper Dongbei reported on its website.
It was the first time that the North Korean troupe staged a performance tour at the Harbin festival, known for its huge ice sculptures and replicas, according to the report.
Photos taken by the paper show a North Korean acrobat skating with multiple hula hoops and a group of acrobats performing a circus on ice.
The troupe’s ice acrobatic performance will last until Feb. 20, the report said.
Established in 1952, the troupe is one of North Korea’s foremost cultural groups. It made a visit to South Korea in 2000 on the eve of the first inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang.
