A TV actress who is married to the second son of former President Chun Doo-hwan was fined on Friday for securing admission for her children to a local foreigner-only school with the use of fraudulent documents.
A district court ordered Park Sang-ah to pay 15 million won ($13,300) in fines for transferring her two children to a school for children of foreign residents based on forged proof of enrollment of an English immersion kindergarten with the help of an American employee at the school.
“(Park) knew that her children did not meet enrollment requirement of the foreigner-only school,” the Incheon District Court said in its ruling.
Under South Korean law, local students can be enrolled at international schools here only if one of their parents is a foreign national. Admission is also allowed if a parent and their child have resided overseas for at least three years, but this demographic should not exceed 30 percent of the school’s total enrollment. (Yonhap News)
