LG CNS said Wednesday it has partnered with Japanese telecom giant KDDI to expand artificial intelligence and digital transformation businesses across the Asia-Pacific region.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to combine LG CNS's AI expertise with KDDI's telecommunications infrastructure and regional network, targeting opportunities in smart cities, industrial automation and IT services.

KDDI operates 19 business locations across 15 Asia-Pacific countries, providing mobile and internet services as well as enterprise AI, cloud and network solutions.

Under the agreement, the companies will explore developing AI agent services tailored to local businesses using LG CNS's AgenticWorks platform. They will also pursue industrial automation and robot management solutions through its PhysicalWorks platform, targeting manufacturers, logistics companies and retailers.

In Southeast Asia, the partners plan to develop smart city solutions by integrating urban management and intelligent transportation systems with telecommunications infrastructure.

A joint working group has begun identifying potential projects in Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and China. The companies will also explore opportunities in telecommunications and IT system integration and management.

"The partnership aims to create a new industrial foundation by integrating AI, telecommunications and data," said Kentaro Matsuura, deputy head of KDDI's Business Growth Division. "We aim to work with partners across the Asia-Pacific region to build a digital ecosystem that supports businesses and social infrastructure."

"We expect to create new business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific market by combining our capabilities," said Park Sang-kyun, executive vice president and head of LG CNS's telecommunications, retail and services business. "We will work with KDDI to deliver tangible results in our global AI transformation business."
