Phased road closures from midnight for 24 hours; Sejong-daero bus routes to be diverted
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Thursday it will implement phased traffic controls around the Gwanghwamun area from midnight Saturday for 24 hours to accommodate the 2026 Easter Parade.
The parade, organized by the United Christian Churches of Korea, is expected to draw large crowds across all age groups.
To manage safety, the city will install pedestrian barriers and deploy personnel at key points to oversee crowd and traffic control.
Several bus routes passing through Sejong-daero will be diverted on the day of the event, and bus stops within the restricted zone will be temporarily closed. Passengers traveling through Jongno and Gwanghwamun will need to disembark at nearby stops and transfer to the subway or continue on foot.
The city urged commuters to check rerouting information posted at bus stops and inside buses in advance, and to plan alternative routes.
This year’s event will feature 40 teams and more than 8,000 participants, with parades and street performances planned throughout the day. Additional programs include family activities, exhibitions and the “Joyful Concert,” an outdoor music event open to the public.
“Significant congestion is expected around Gwanghwamun Square,” the city said, adding it will seek to minimize disruption caused by the traffic restrictions.
