A bus driver received a certificate of appreciation and reward for aiding the apprehension of a man who sexually harassed a female victim, Busan police said Thursday.
Busan Gijang Police Station said the driver surnamed Lee was commended for the recent arrest made earlier this month.
Lee was operating his bus at the Gijang-gun district of the port city when he heard a female passenger say she had been sexually harassed by a man. Lee closed the door of the vehicle to keep the suspect from fleeing and called the police, handing the suspect over to the officers who arrived shortly after.
"I only did what should be done ... I would like to make even small contributions to aid the protection of citizens," he was quoted as saying.
The chief of Gijang police said the case demonstrates that quick thinking and reporting could help prevent crime and protect the victim, vowing to award any cooperation made by the public that aids the police.
