South Korean police said Thursday that they have referred the case of a 36-year-old woman suspected of assaulting her estranged husband to the prosecution.

The woman, a Vietnamese national, allegedly drugged the 62-year-old man using her own prescribed medication for depression.

The suspect, who is currently undergoing divorce proceedings with the victim, visited his home on April 23 to see their children. During the visit, she allegedly crushed three depression pills into a fine powder and mixed them into a bottle of soju, which the victim drank. He subsequently lost consciousness.

The victim told police that after drinking the drink, he "suddenly collapsed and fell asleep."

The suspect admitted to drugging him, saying she wanted him to fall asleep. However, the exact motive for her wanting him to be unconscious remains unclear. She is facing charges of inflicting bodily injury under Article 257 of the Criminal Act, a violation punishable by up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won ($7,200).
