The Seoul Metropolitan Government has launched a project aimed at lowering consumer prices for delivery food in partnership with Shinhan Bank and the food service industry, with fried chicken as the first target.
The Seoul Delivery+ Pricing System Initiative shares the cost burden of lowering prices between Seoul City, Shinhan Bank and related franchises' headquarters, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Friday.
The city government’s initiative, focused on revitalizing the local economy, seeks to expand consumer benefits by offering discounts while minimizing the financial burden on small business owners by reducing commission fees.
The delivery service application “Ddangyo,” run by Shinhan Bank since 2021, will begin to offer discounts of up to 30 percent on fried chicken orders from 18 franchises in Seoul.
These franchises signed a joint agreement Friday with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Shinhan Bank, the Korea Franchise Association, the Korea Food Industry Association and the Korea Franchise Union.
Customers who order fried chicken through Ddangyo will receive 5 percent to 15 percent discount vouchers offered by the city government, as well as an additional 5 percent discount through coupons and promotions, and 5 to 10 percent discounts offered by each franchise.
Specific details, such as when this service will be launched to the public, are still in discussion and will be finalized after a joint discussion with representatives of the franchises involved.
The 18 fried chicken franchises taking part in the joint agreement include BHC Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Goobne Chicken, Nene Chicken, Norang Tongdak, Cheogajip, Mom’s Touch, Gamaro Gangjung, Barun Chicken, Bodram Chicken, Kkubeurakko, Chicken Maru, Tiba Chicken, Puradak Chicken, Ho Chicken, 60 Chicken and Guljak.
Seoul City plans to expand its price-cutting project to other food service sectors following its partnership with chicken franchises.
