Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung maintained a strong lead among potential candidates for the June 3 presidential election, surpassing the combined support for conservative contenders, a survey showed Friday.

In the poll conducted by Gallup Korea on 1,000 adults from Tuesday to Thursday, Lee garnered 38 percent support, unchanged from the previous week.

Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, followed with 8 percent, while former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo secured 7 percent. Acting President Han Duck-soo and former Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo each received 6 percent.

The combined support for the three People Power Party-affiliated contenders -- Han Dong-hoon, Hong, and Kim -- stood at 23 percent. Even when including Han Duck-soo's rating, the total reached 29 percent, falling short of Lee's 38 percent.

Han, the prime minister currently serving as the interim leader, has not yet declared his candidacy despite ongoing speculation about a potential bid.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level. (Yonhap)
